Toursay
Google(Gemini)AI

Toursay Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
Toursay (formerly Tourfun, "we", "us") is an AI-powered tour guide app — available on the web and as a mobile app — that helps you identify landmarks around you, generates spoken and written guides, and plans sightseeing routes. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, which third-party services we share it with, and what control you have over it. By using Toursay, you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
| Type | Details |
|---|---|
| Account information | Your email address and password (stored encrypted — we cannot see the plaintext ourselves). If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive the email address you authorize sharing, used to create or link your account; we never receive your Google/Apple account password. |
| Photos you take | Photos you upload via the "scan to identify" feature are sent to the third-party AI image recognition services listed below, to identify the landmark and generate a description. Our own servers do not permanently store these photos in any database or file storage — they pass through only for the duration of that single request and are discarded once it completes. |
| Photo library photos (Travel Memoir) |
When you use the "Travel Memoir" feature, the photos you pick are uploaded to our servers and sent to
Google's Gemini AI service to identify where they were taken, write captions, and compose the memoir
image/video. If you use "Auto-pick recent photos" in the iOS app: after you grant photo library access, the app reads the capture time, dimensions and similar details of your last 10 days of photos and pre-filters them locally on your phone (no photos are uploaded during this step). Up to 60 remaining candidates are reduced to low-resolution thumbnails, uploaded, and sent to Google's Gemini AI service, which picks 4–8 of them; photos that are not picked receive no further processing. Memoir photos are held only temporarily in server memory (up to about 20 minutes, so you can edit captions before generating); generating a video may briefly create temporary files that are deleted as soon as it finishes. They are never written to a database or long-term storage, and are not used for anything beyond this feature. Photo library access is entirely optional — you can decline and pick photos manually instead. |
| Location data | If you grant location permission, we read your GPS coordinates to more accurately identify landmarks, recommend nearby sights, and power the auto-guide feature. Location sharing is entirely optional — you may instead type in a place name manually, or provide neither. |
| Device / usage information | When not signed in, we generate an anonymous device identifier stored locally on your device, used only to track whether your free trial period has been used — not to identify you personally. Our server logs also temporarily record request IP addresses, used only for basic abuse prevention and rate limiting (e.g. capping how many recognition requests one IP can make in a short window); these are not retained long-term or used to build a profile of you. |
| Payment / subscription information | Web VIP purchases are processed by Stripe — we never see your full card number. In-app purchases are processed by the Apple App Store / Google Play — we only receive purchase-success and subscription-expiry status, never your payment method details. |
How We Use This Information
- To provide the app's core features: identifying landmarks in photos, generating written/spoken guides, planning routes, recommending nearby restaurants and sights, and creating travel memoirs (including auto-picking recent photos);
- Account management: authentication, password recovery, keeping you signed in;
- Determining your VIP/paid access status to unlock the relevant features;
- Basic abuse prevention and rate limiting to keep the service stable;
- Responding to you if you contact us for support.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we do not use it for advertising unrelated to the app's own features.
Third-Party Services We Use
To power the app's core features, some of your data is sent to the following third-party providers as needed, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- OpenAI / Google (Gemini): processes photos and text you submit, to identify landmarks and generate guide content; Travel Memoir photos (including the candidate thumbnails for "Auto-pick recent photos") are processed by Google Gemini to pick photos and write captions;
- OpenStreetMap (Nominatim / Overpass): converts GPS coordinates into place descriptions and looks up real nearby landmark data;
- Microsoft Azure AI Speech: converts generated guide text into spoken audio;
- Google Sign-In / Sign in with Apple: used for authentication if you choose either sign-in method;
- Stripe: processes web VIP subscription payments;
- RevenueCat, the Apple App Store, and Google Play: process in-app VIP subscription purchases.
Data Storage & Retention
Account information (email, encrypted password) is retained until you request account deletion. Photos you take, and photo library photos used for Travel Memoir, are not permanently stored on our servers. Our servers are hosted in the United States.
Your Rights
You may contact us at any time using the details below to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you (including closing your account). We will act on your request within a reasonable time.
Children's Privacy
Toursay is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
